Notes: This is also known as “Bambi, Style One.” Large Bambi was listed on the Fall 1956 order form in a column titled, “Disney Line,” which was distinguished from the “Disney Miniatures.” The line drawing for Large Bambi was used for Miniature Bambi from F1957-S1960.
The comparison photo illustrates the size difference between Large Bambi and the Miniature Bambi with Butterfly.
Production Dates:
S1956-F1956, as “Bambi (with Butterfly)”
S1957, as “Bambi (Miniature with Butterfly)”
F1957-F1959, as “Bambi (with Butterfly)”
S1960, as “Bambi”
Mold Book Name: Bambi
Notes: The butterfly was a separately molded piece which may become detached over time. All the order forms specifically mention the butterfly except for Spring 1960. It’s not clear if Bambi was sold with or without the butterfly for that season.
Production Dates: S1956-F1956, as “Faline (Bambi’s Sweetheart)” [grey-brown] S1957, as “Bambi (Miniature)” [caramel] F1957-S1960, as “Bambi” [caramel]
Mold Book Name: Faline (Bambi without [butterfly])
Notes: The comparison photo shows color and detail variations of Bambi.
The same mold was used for both Faline and Small Bambi; the caramel Bambi coloration is harder to find despite having apparently been produced much longer. The mold is also known as “Bambi, Style Two.”
This mold was later reissued as a Miniature, A-875, with different colors and detail. Only pieces which closely resemble the photo here are Disney issues. Miniature reissues of Disney pieces are called Non-Disneys by collectors.
