What is the history of Hagen-Renaker?

This is a fascinating topic which has been well covered by others and is beyond the scope of this Field Guide. For a brief history of Hagen-Renaker, I recommend the official Hagen-Renaker website (www.hagenrenaker.com), and the Hagen-Renaker Online Museum (http://hagenrenakerhorses.com/HRHistory2007Sch.html) .

For a wealth of historical detail and many beautiful photos, seek out Nancy Kelly’s excellent Hagen-Renaker books, available on Amazon and at schifferbooks.com.

Is the Hagen-Renaker factory still open?

For many years Hagen-Renaker was the only pottery still making ceramic animal miniatures in the USA. As of December 31, 2021, the original factory in San Dimas, California is closed. The last owner, Sue Nikas, daughter of the company founders, John and Maxine Renaker, has retired and closed the pottery.

Kristina Lucas Francis runs a licensed offshoot, Hagen-Renaker Tennessee, which is currently issuing limited runs of selected Hagen-Renaker horses and other pieces. More information can be found at the Hagen-Renaker Collector’s Club group on Facebook.
